Merry-Go-Round - Take Care!

Jump on our merry go round and join a group of artists/crafts-women from around the world as they link hands and tell you a little bit about their lives in craft.
Do look up the answers from the rest of this band of crafters (links to your left).
If they haven't posted yet, remember we all live in different time zones and check again later...
This month's theme:
How to take care of your art— information for buyers.

Because of the variety of crafts I dabble in, there cannot be one answer to this, except to point out that anything extreme (temperature, activity, fingering... or even cleansing!) is going to be potentially damaging.

So, first things first.
When you buy jewellery from me, you're going to be aware of the materials used, because I always give as much information as I can in my listings.

If you buy pearls— since I tend to use silver or vermeil with them, but not glue— a little soft soap and warm water once in a while, followed by thorough rinsing and immediately by light-handed dry padding with cotton cloth, is going to revive your pearls for as long as you love them.
My more whimsical jewellery often involves the use of glue. This entails that though you should be able to rinse it (it will survive rain too!), soaking is an absolute No No. My motto for cocktail rings: "No shock, shower, no dish washing!"

Anything that involves several elements shall definitely come apart if you try it...

The good news is that most of my pieces can also be mended.

As for textiles, I like my own possessions to be washable, so most of what I make can be washed. But any handmade accessory, especially embroidered and embellished ones, will have to be hand-washed, just to be on the safe side. I use nearly no synthetics, so, yes, the fabric will age, as we do. Careful storing and moth-repellents work well...

DaWanda - Feature / Profil: JENNY KARLSSON

A new profile today, with a young Swedish designer who creates genuinely original and one of a kind handbags— among other things— look up her lovely cards and gorgeous cuffs! Meet Jenny of Jenny Karlsson Design!
To see more of her work and read more about her, you should definitely check out her
blog and her Flick'r gallery, as well as her DaWanda shop, of course (she's having a sale right now...).

1) What is your favourite word?
I'm note sure that I have one. I do tend to use a lot of old words, like the way they speak in old movies from the 1940ies. At least here in Sweden a lot of those movies were very jolly indeed. In English I think it might be the word 'beloved'.
2) What is / are your favourite material(s) / fabric(s)?
I prefer linen, cotton, silk, glass and other natural materials. I get a lot of my fabrics and such at second hand shops. Many a thing have been made out of old curtains, tea towels and blankets. I like the thought of making things live on, and old things have another feel to them. In short they have got a feel of things past.
3) Do you have a favourite colour?
I like most colours. But if I must pick one I think it must be green, green as the newly sprung leaves in may... Or like moss... I love plants and trees and nature is a big inspiration for me.
4) What good are your five senses to you?
They do me a whole lot of good! :) I think the ones I value most are seeing and touching. But I think they are all very useful.
5) Why the need to make things?
I realised a few years ago when I studied at uni, that when I don't work with my hands I feel out of balance. And about a year ago I sort of 'hit the wall', as they say, and that made me think about what I consider truly important, for me. I have always been creative in different ways, but now I work more towards using my ability to get my life in the way I want it to be. I don't believe in working 9-5 each day and then live for the weekends and holidays. Life goes on all the time and I want to live in the now and follow my own way, even though it is rather hard sometimes. But one live, and learn :)
6) What is your most ambitious project at the moment?
I am finally putting more effort into getting people to know that I make and sell things. And the decision to think more positive - that does take work and determination, especially when you tend to stumble into pits that you've dug yourself..
I will also take part in a local exhibition at the museum here in town later this year and have thought of making something rather extravagant.. A lot of embroideries on something that can be used as well... Like a bag perhaps ;)
7) What is your pet (non-creative!) addiction
I have quite a lot of cafe latte's... So I guess it would be coffee.. and dark chocolate.
I do like watching The House of Eliott and other DVDs that gives me energy and inspiration while sewing.. Costume dramas is the thing!

Ils me servent beaucoup!
