DaWanda - Profil / Feature: KALICAT

Aujourd'hui, j'ai le très, très grand plaisir de présenter une créatrice (ô combien !) : Catherine, de Kalicat, dont le travail m'enthousiasme d'autant plus qu'elle m'en aura demandé moins : elle a répondu à mon questionnaire dans les deux langues ! Du coup, je n'ai presque rien eu à faire.
Ce qui tombe bien, vu le temps que j'ai pu passer ces derniers mois à rêvasser devant ses bijoux. Son travail de joaillerie est vraiment tout à fait remarquable : une alliance d'élégance très moderne et de formes et mouvements organiques, toujours très sobres mais d'une originalité qui attire l'oeil... et ne le lâche plus !

It is now my very great pleasure to present here Catherine, of Kalicat. All the more pleasure for me as she answered my questions in both languages, meaning I had no translation work to do. All pleasure and no work— the life!
Please don't think my enthusiasm is all about me being lazy because it is mostly about her being a very talented designer and artist, really!

1) Quel est votre mot préféré?
C'est un terme employe en sculpture ; Callypige, qui signifie : qui a de belles fesses.
Par exemple, une deesse callypige.

2)Votre / Vos matériaux / fibre(s) préfé(s)?
Longue liste! J'aime les brocards de soie façon années 50 60, avec de grosses
fleurs et bien sûr l'or jaune et les pierres precieuses. Surtout les tourmalines.

3) Avez-vous une couleur préférée?
Cela change en fonction des saisons. En ce moment, j'aime bien le vert anis,
avec des accents de rose bonbon.

4) A quoi vous servent vos cinq sens?
A apprecier la vie et ce qu'elle a à offrir.

5) Pourquoi créer?
C'est un besoin viscéral qui me tenaille les entrailles.
Je l'assouvis depuis toujours et ai toujours soif d'enrichir mon vocabulaire
expressif en apprenant de nouvelles techniques.
J'ai appris la peinture, la gravure a l'eau forte, la serigraphie, la
joaillerie... En projet, la sculpture :)
J'aime porter des choses differentes et exceptionnelles, des vêtements qui me
vont a ravir, des bijoux un peu plus originaux que ceux du commerce, aller
contre les tendances ou créer ma mode, rien de plus excitant.

6) Votre projet ambitieux du moment?
J'ai des dizaines de projets, dessinés sur les pages de mon carnet de croquis.
Je rêve d'une bague avec un gros quartz citron, serti de petits diamants
mignons.

7) Votre addiction (non-créative !) ?
le saxophone et le chocolat. Et aussi danser.



1) What is your favourite word?
Callypige: I like the sound of it, its meaning and what it stands for.

2) What is / are your favourite material(s) / fabric(s)?
I like Brocade, especially vintage one. I love the old 50s and 60s dresses
made out of it and managed to get a few :)
I also love yellow gold and Tourmalines

3) Do you have a favourite colour?
Not really, it depends on seasons, weather, my mood... At the moment I quite
like lime green combined with shades of pink

4) What good are your five senses to you?
Taste and smell are essential in my Chocolate addiction appreciation.
Sight and touch are great for scanning goodies, materials and objects of desire
And hearing is something I also use everyday especially for music.
Without one of them, I would not be complete anymore.
I would also add a 6th sense: intuition :)

5) Why the need to make things?
It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember: drawing, using
modelling clay, making clothes for my dolls, knitting, corcheting... and of
course jewellery.
My 3 years old son was once asked "what does your mother do?"
He said: "Mommy, she makes things all the time. Lots of things".
I guess it fulfills my creativity and balances me.
But mainly, I like to stand out from the crowd and having something UNIQUE that
has only been made once or as a limited edition is the best way for me. If I
cannot find what I want, I just make it .

6) What is your most ambitious project at the moment?
Apart from making new commissions and creating new collections, I am working on
a cocktail ring with a massive lemon quartz, set in platinum with diamonds.
Definitely not for the discrete woman, more for Divas.

7) What is your pet (non-creative!) addiction?
Eating chocolate, playing the saxophone and dancing.
